Roseland is a borough located in the western part of Essex County, New Jersey. The borough has a total area of 3.560 square miles, and is located about 20 miles west of New York City. According to the 2010 United States Census, the population was 5,819 people with a median household income of $100,289. Interstate 280 is the main highway in this area, and Roseland is neighbored by Livingston and by East Hanover Township in Morris County.
There are some large companies located in Roseland including Automatic Data Processing, Organon International (pharmaceutical company), and several big law firms.
The New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Roseland as the seventh best place to live in the 2015 rankings for “Best Places To Live” in New Jersey. Fiscal prudence, cultural and recreation programs, conservation, climate protection and sustainability are of great importance to the Borough of Roseland. The town’s recreation center has baseball fields, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, and an ice skating rink. Roseland residents may take pool membership in the communities of East Hanover, Fairfield, Livingston, North Caldwell, and West Caldwell.
Camp Wyanokie is a special place, gifted to the towns of Caldwell, Fairfield, North Caldwell, Roseland and West Caldwell for use by residents. A beautiful, serene park area, it offers camping, hiking and picnicking. The five towns share a community commitment to the preservation of open space at Camp Wyanokie.
Roseland began as part of Livingston Township, becoming its own township in 1908. Becker Farm, a sprawling dairy farm, once encompassed nearly half of what is now Roseland. From 1938 to 1972, the farm operated the miniature Becker Farm Railroad, also known as the Centerville & Southwestern Railroad. The railroad had a live steam locomotive, small-scale diesel locomotives, and small-scale passenger cars. This area has now become a large business/office park with easy access from I-280. There are still some remnants of the railroad on the property today.
Roseland has its share of celebrities: actress Denise Borino-Quinn, who played Ginny Sacramoni on the Sopranos, former NJ Senator Richard Codey, and Kevin Monangai, a running back for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Roseland School District serves students from pre-school through twelfth grade. Lester C. Noecker Elementary School has students in pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. Students in grades seven through twelve attend the West Essex Regional School District, which serves students from four municipalities (Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell, and Roseland) in western Essex County. As of the 2013-2014 school year there were 563 students in grades 7-8; and 1,088 students attending the West Essex High School which covers grades 9-12.
